For this project I have been commissioned to create 100+ illustrations for CAD etching into steel plates that will be part of a 3D sculpture that is a representation of the evolution and origins of life on earth. This is a collaboration with researchers Vincent Daubin and Sylvain Charlat of the University of Lyon, and industrial designer Samuel Laganier also based in the city of Lyon.
This visualization of the biological Tree of Life is a 3D permanent outdoor sculpture that will be a formation of metal "branches", with each branch having a "leaf" that is etched with the images that represent the phylogenetic relation of that particular species, class and/or organism to the larger evolved tree.
This project is coinciding with the 200 Years of Darwin events happening throughout Europe in 2009 and specifically the celebration in Lyon, France - “Evolution…Révolution” - being held in collaboration with the Museum of Natural History in Lyon.
The unveiling of the sculpture is in October 2009.
